在真正的咖啡嗜好者眼中，小小的咖啡豆也是能分出雌雄的，這就是我們俗稱的公豆、母豆。在國內我們基本上接觸不到公豆咖啡，所以任何商家都不會告訴你咖啡豆還分公母，相同產地的咖啡其實也會有很大的區別，不但是口感、營養、還是價格都千差地別。</p>

那麼究竟什麼是公豆咖啡呢?</p>
<p>
公豆是一種變種的咖啡豆，指的主要是Peaberry或caracoli，而公豆只是中文的俗稱。公豆在植物學理上可說是一種瑕疵，成因有2種，其一是因爲咖啡在結成果實前受到昆蟲損害，另外，也可能是因爲咖啡樹遇久旱不雨或營養不均衡等因素的影響，此外，生長在咖啡樹樹枝末端的咖啡豆也有機會出現此現象。</p>
<p>
正常的咖啡樹，果實成熟時是分不出公豆、母豆，要把果實扒開，纔看得到裏面豆子的形狀，脫開果皮和果肉後的咖啡生豆，如果已經分成兩半，就像剖開的桃子，這種就是母咖啡，要是圓滾滾一整顆，就叫公豆。</p>
<p>
公豆英文名稱Peaberry，中文叫圓豆，一棵咖啡樹中只有5%是公豆，其餘都是母豆。其實公豆是咖啡豆在生長期間發生的畸形，一般咖啡豆都有兩片豆瓣，公豆卻只有一片豆瓣，又有單豆之稱，一片豆瓣吸收的養分較多，咖啡豆色澤、形狀、顆粒都顯得比較大，煮起來咖啡清香不斷回甘，數量比較少，因此又有夢幻咖啡之稱。</p>
<p>
不過因爲數量太少，平均一百顆咖啡豆裏也只有幾顆咖啡豆是公豆。一般種植的咖啡農並不會特別挑出來賣，而且這種差別如果你不到產地現場直擊或接觸，真的很難發現。當然也有個別商家會有公豆販售。但是俗話說物以稀爲貴，當然咖啡就是以公豆爲貴了。</p>
