過去許多研究發現，適量喝咖啡，對腦部、心臟可能都有保護作用。但國內研究顯示，喝咖啡竟是新陳代謝症候羣的危險因子之一，而新陳代謝症候羣若沒控制好，患者便易得心血管疾病。所謂新陳代謝症候羣，指的是一羣和新陳代謝症狀有關的特徵，出現在同個人身上，而這些特徵有腰圍肥胖、高血壓、高血脂等。依照衛生署建議，男性腰圍大於90公分、女性大於80公分，即符合新陳代謝症候羣認定的腰圍肥胖標準。心臟學會今舉行學術研討會，內科教授曾春典在會上發表這項研究。</p>

他表示，爲了要掌握新陳代謝症候羣的盛行率，研究團隊從4萬人的健檢資料中，發現有超過3000件符合新陳代謝症候羣標準者，從中隨機取樣約1400人，並收集約2400人的控制組，以分析新陳代謝症候羣是否有家族傾向。曾春典說，從研究結果可見，新陳代謝症候羣在臺灣的盛行率，約在16%上下，男性比女性、體重高比體重輕、年紀大比年紀小，更易有新陳代謝症候羣。而新陳代謝症候羣也確實有家族傾向，而且有新陳代謝症候羣的媽媽，比有新陳代謝症候羣的爸爸，更容易讓其他家人也患新陳代謝症候羣。對於新陳代謝症候羣的高盛行率，曾春典認爲，除了遺傳因素造成之外，應該也有環境影響，其中嚼檳榔和喝咖啡的習慣，都是導致新陳代謝症候羣的獨立危險因子。而抽菸的影響不是那樣明顯。相對於危險因子的保護因子，該研究則發現做運動及喫蔬菜，對預防新陳代謝症候羣有一定保護作用。以往研究並未指出咖啡和新陳代謝症候羣的相關性，曾春典針對此說，咖啡的醫學研究多在國外進行，而國外喝黑咖啡者似乎比較普遍，也許國人喝咖啡時，放入了太多的糖和奶精。</p>
<p>
建議愛喝咖啡族羣，得控制加糖、奶精的份量，以避免罹患新陳代謝症候羣損及健康。</p>
