							<span style="font-size:16px;">更糟糕的是，當時美國的社會現狀就是，失去勞動能力且沒有受過高等教育的藍領工人一定會被解僱，沒有收入更沒有醫療保險。&nbsp;儘管霍華德知道父親是個多麼努力工作的老實人，也只能眼睜睜看着他成爲了被社會拋棄的一員。</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">不再踢球的霍華德將所有精力都用在了學習上，大學畢業後就到了施樂公司的營銷部門工作。&nbsp;銷售不是個簡單的差事，但是霍華德性格很堅韌，在這裏他積累到了相當多的營銷經驗。</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">三年的時間裏，霍華德不僅還清了大學時候欠下的貸款費用，還順利進入了柏士德公司，積極爲柏士德籌劃漢默普拉斯特這一百貨品牌的美國分公司，還被提拔成爲漢默普拉斯特的副總裁。&nbsp;</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">霍華德就這樣在西雅圖遇到了星巴克，那時候的星巴克只有四家店，專門向咖啡愛好者出售精品咖啡。&nbsp;在當時，精品咖啡這一概念在美國還尚未普及，人們以爲咖啡就是罐裝的粉末，而不知道那是用咖啡豆磨出來的。</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">這裏的主人和客人之間關係親密，進店就會打招呼，咖啡店的主人甚至能說得上客人常喝的咖啡種類，這樣的貼心體驗讓霍華德意識到，原來咖啡可以幫助人和人之間建立這樣的親密關係。&nbsp;</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">回到美國後，1985年，霍華德就向星巴克的幾位創始人提出改變當前星巴克的營業模式，轉型爲類似意大利咖啡館那樣的社交模式，而不是單純的買賣模式，只不過很長一段時間霍華德都沒能說服他們。</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">可是霍華德不願意放棄，1986年他暫時離開了星巴克，成立了自己的咖啡品牌&mdash;&mdash;Il Giornale（譯爲：每天）。&nbsp;</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">有了自己的咖啡品牌後，霍華德就專注於將社交場景的理念在Il Giornale身上踐行，一年後，星巴克的創始人找到了霍華德，希望他能夠收購星巴克。</span></p>

							<span style="font-size:16px;">緊接着，霍華德開始對星巴克進行大刀闊斧的改變，他所堅持的社交模式咖啡館在美國國內迅速走紅，大家從未想過原來咖啡不止可以帶回家飲用，還可以和其他咖啡愛好者聚集在一起，聊天交流，期間還有香氣四溢的咖啡可以享受。</span></p>
